Disk storage

Storage capacity can be expanded by adding external hard disk towers to your microCT system. Particularly attractive is the addition of disk towers configured with RAID 5 disk arrays, which store your data on multiple disks automatically, helping to protect you from data loss. Hot spare disks can be included for extra peace of mind.

* RAID 1

SCSI and SAS disks are recommended for highest performance. SATA disks offer a cost-effective upgrade path when capacity and cost take priority over absolute performance.

A maximum of two MSA 30 disk towers can be connected to a single RAID card. For a greater expansion capacity, up to 4 MSA 60 and MSA 70 arrays can be connected in cascade.

HP disk towers carry a three-year guarantee with next working day exchange in the event of disk failure.

RAID

Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks

RAID 1

Mirroring
Data are stored automatically onto two hard disks. Data are preserved even if one disk fails.

RAID 5

Distributed storage
Disks are grouped so that data and recovery information are stored on separate disks. In the event of failure of a single disk, no data are lost.

Hot spare

Spare disk within RAID array that stands-in automatically when a disk fails. Redundant storage of data is maintained.
