This magnetic tape-based approach allows unlimited expansion of data storage capacity.

Media in the industry-standard LTO format are manufactured by many leading companies, including HP, Sony and Imation, and are readily available from good computer suppliers. (Note that the advertised capacity of tape media is based on data storage using 50% compression. MicroCT data does not allow such compression, so effective media storage capacity for archiving is half the advertised value.)
